For a late dinner this Ramadan, we headed towards Tokyo, a well known Japanese restaurant in Riyadh, reputed for it’s very fine food. But we found out that the building was under construction and without idea where the restaurant transferred.

We decided to look for other restaurant to eat in Tahlia Street. We had chanced this chic looking from the outside restaurant called Nino. Entering the place, you wouldn’t think that you’re in the Middle East. Although there were few guests dining, the place seemed busy during dinner time.

Food. The menu consisted of various specialties like Japanese and Italian. But only selected a few, maybe as desired by the owner or chef. It’s very interesting because of the mix of Japanese and Italian. We had Salmon, Crab and Avocado salad served with Ponsu and Shiso leaves emulsion sauce. It was fresh and the combination was quite new to me. The Prawn and Crab maki was very delicious, but not that filling. Not sure why the rice was not that heavy to eat. There was also crispy tempura inside that maki that made it unique to me.

The Gamberoni Risotto was very tasty, but I found the Arborio rice over cooked. The prawns were in huge pieces. The Tagliata de Manzo on the other hand was very flavorful with its truffle cream sauce. The beef medallion slices were so tender that was seasoned with herbs just right that was fire grilled.

Service. The waiter was very attentive and gave good suggestions – that the fish tempura might not be that too fresh for it was prepared earlier in the morning.

Ambiance. The place was truly stylish and looks like a wide long alley.

Price. The Salmon, Crab and Avocado salad priced at SR48, Prawn and Crab maki SR41, Prawn Risotto SR71, Tagliata de Manzo SR89. Price is just right for the meal size and taste. We had more for take home. Total bill was SR335 including drinks (Pina Colada and R&B) and chocolate cake for dessert with green tea.
