Contis Bakeshop & Restaurant Greenbelt – Philippines, Surprisingly Fabulous
Here’s a story from one of our readers who happens to visit Contis Bakeshop & Restaurant located at Greenbelt in Makati City – Philippines. She asks us to remain anonymous.
I have been working in Makati since 1997 and I have seen many restaurants come and go. I have seen restaurants that became the talk of the yuppies one day only to turn out the least favorite places to dine. Some of them were really good and were missed. That is how tough the competition is in Makati. The best of the best are the only ones that will stay for years. Well, I have to say that I hope Conti’s Greenbelt will be here to stay for a very long, long time.
I knew about the place from my friend. She just loves to eat and she is one of those people who know the latest restos before they become big hits. So that means I learned of Conti’s way, way back. But I was not very keen on trying it out. I do not find their menu particularly appealing. I am not very fond of sweets so their cakes and pastries are not that inviting even the so popular Mango Bravo. Paella? I would rather go to Alba’s. Lechon Kawali and Kare-Kare, I am satisfied with Jerry’s Grill. French Toast Crunch? I make a superb almond and cinnamon French toast. Steaks and Ribs, why go anywhere else but Friday’s?
Eventually however, I was invited by a friend of a friend at Conti’s Greenbelt last week. And boy, indeed I was mistaken. I just love their Kare-Kare. My mom makes a fabulous Kare-Kare which is unequaled even by the best restaurants in Manila. Conti’s Kare-Kare, I have to say, is almost as good as my mom’s. For those who are not used to having really good Kare-Kare, theirs is heavenly. What makes a good Kare-Kare is the sauce, and Conti’s Kare-Kare just has the right flavoring and consistency. The spare ribs are also a delight. I was surprised really because I am not really very fond of spare ribs except Friday’s Jack Daniel’s. Another item that is worthy of mention is the Halo-Halo. Like I said, I am not into sweets but their halo halo special is truly the perfect end to a wonderful dining experience.
Conti’s has also one branch at the Serendra in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
