Orange-Lemon Chicken By Request
Once I was asked by a friend on how to cook chicken using lemon sauce. Lemon Chicken is usually served on restaurants and is very popular on Chinese cuisines. So I decided to try and test a recipe, although I’ve been cooking this one for quite some time.
1 kg chicken fillets or breast part sliced into small portions
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground pepper
1 eggs (beaten)
Oil (for frying)
Orange/ Lemon Sauce
1 ½ cups water
2 tbsp orange juice
¼ cup lemon juice
2 ½ tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp orange zest (thinly grate the orange peel
½ cup brown sugar or ¼ cup white sugar
½ tsp ginger root (minced)
½ tsp garlic (minced)
3 tbsp cornstarch combine with ¼ cup water
Dry rub chicken pieces with enough salt and ground pepper. Let stand for few minutes. Season the flour with salt, and pepper. Dip chicken pieces in beaten egg and coat in flour mixture (use a plastic bag to coat evenly). Deep fry chicken until crisp and well done. Set aside.
In a large saucepan, combine water, lemon juice, orange juice and soy sauce. Stir well over medium heat for a few minutes. Add brown sugar, orange zest, ginger, garlic, and onion. Bring to a boil. Combine 3 tbsp cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water and mix well. Gradually add cornstarch mixture into sauce under low heat until thick. Let cool.
Pour sauce over breaded chicken.
Serve and enjoy.
